Wodonga gathers to support Helen Haines after attack
Residents across the border region gathered in Wodonga to show support for independent MP Helen Haines and her family after an attack.
Hundreds of people came together in Wodonga on Tuesday morning to express solidarity with Helen Haines, the independent member for Indi, following an attack on the MP. Councillor Michelle Cowan, who worked with Dr Haines for three and a half years, said the gathering reflected the leadership she has shown across the region.
"The importance of coming together is really just to show our love and support for Helen and her family," Cowan said. Attendees included former MP Cathy McGowan, Wodonga mayor Michael Gobel, and Albury councillor Jess Kellahan.
A community vigil is planned at The Cube Wodonga courtyard, giving residents another chance to stand together. Cowan said the community wanted Dr Haines to feel their collective care and support.
