Half Yours targets back-to-back Caulfield Cups as 71-year record beckons

Half Yours chases a 71-year-old record by trying to win consecutive Caulfield Cups, with only two horses ever achieving the feat.

Half Yours won the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups double last year, becoming just the 13th horse to do it. On Saturday he will chase an even rarer milestone: a second consecutive Caulfield Cup, a feat not achieved in 71 years.

Only two horses have ever won back-to-back Caulfields with a Melbourne Cup sandwiched between: Poseidon in 1907 and Rising Fast in 1955. Trainer Calvin McEvoy says the horse remains in peak form despite carrying 5kg more weight than last year.

"We have an elite stayer that is great at 2400 and 3200 metres," McEvoy said. Jockey Mark Zahra takes the ride on Saturday, replacing Jamie Melham who won the Melbourne Cup on Half Yours last year but chose to ride in the $20 million Everest at Randwick instead.
