One-third of Australians unprepared for emergencies despite expecting one
Red Cross finds 33% of Australians lack confidence in emergencies despite 83% expecting one in five years.
A Red Cross survey released in September found a gap between readiness and worry. While 83 per cent of Australians expect to face an emergency in the next five years, only 33 per cent feel ready for one.
Of people in Australia who lived through a disaster in the past year, 12.5 per cent took no steps to prepare. Most people take passive steps, such as thinking about risks or considering a plan.
The Red Cross director of recovery says preparation directly affects how well people bounce back. Australia's emergency advice ranges from stocking three days of supplies to about two weeks, depending on your state or territory.
