Virgin Australia lets passengers buy hot chips for $12 on longer flights
Virgin Australia's new economy menu lets passengers buy hot chips for $12 on flights longer than 1.5 hours.
After months of testing, Virgin Australia has added hot chips to its economy menu as a new in-flight purchase. A bowl costs $12 and comes with aioli dip, salt and pepper.
Getting hot chips into the air took serious engineering: the airline uses skin-on potatoes, special packaging to control airflow, and heats them in the onboard ovens to arrive crispy. The airline says this is believed to be a first for an Australian carrier.
The new menus also feature chicken Caesar wraps, matcha lattes, chai lattes and iced coffees. Business class passengers get egg and cheese quesadillas and seared beef with roasted vegetables.
