Village Lane wins ballot for 130-metre stretch with no identity
The Shellharbour City Council will name a 130-metre laneway Village Lane after 546 public submissions and a formal vote.
A laneway just off Russell Street in Albion Park has no name. The laneway serves parking for KFC and the shopping village but nobody knew what to call it.
The council asked the public for suggestions. 546 people submitted ideas, an unusually big turnout for a road-naming decision.
Village Lane beat four other options in a ballot, winning one-third of 299 votes cast. The other finalists were Community Lane, Merrigong Lane, Matilda Lane (honouring the women's football team) and Melmoth Lane.
Residents had suggested Finger-Lickin'-Good Lane and Chicken Wing Lane, but the council rejected those. At Tuesday's meeting, councillors will vote to make Village Lane official.
