Sydney to bulldoze seven buildings for $150m civic plaza by 2031

The City of Sydney endorsed plans to demolish seven buildings opposite Town Hall. A 4,200 square-metre civic plaza will replace them. It will have native trees, water features, and seating. Construction should start in about six years, with completion in 2031.

Why it mattersIf built, Sydney would gain a major gathering space in the CBD. But many residents question the $150 million cost when council faces budget pressure.
