Man sentenced to jail for bus stop assault on teenager
19-year-old sentenced to three months jail for bus stop assault with 14-year-old accomplice.
William Edmond, 19, and a 14-year-old attacked a 17-year-old waiting for a bus in Canberra in May 2025. Edmond punched the teenager in the head and arm, causing a significant cut to his forehead and substantial blood loss.
The assault was unprovoked and somewhat premeditated, the court heard. Edmond pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to three months jail on October 22.
The sentence was backdated; he is due for release on November 23. The 14-year-old co-offender received a 25-day jail sentence and a three-month good behaviour order.
Magistrate Glenn Theakston found the pair showed they were willing to use violence against someone outnumbered and defenceless.
