Man arrested after harassing women at Canberra fitness studio

Christopher Joseph Lichtwark was refused bail after allegedly threatening multiple women outside a Canberra fitness studio.

A 42-year-old man was arrested. Police say he harassed and threatened multiple women.

The alleged incidents occurred outside a fitness studio in central Canberra on October 15 and 16. On the first morning, he allegedly tried to kick a woman.

Later he approached three others on the street. This caused them to scream and move away.

The next morning, he allegedly approached another woman near the studio. He asked her about membership costs.

He threatened her with crude language. He threw a bottle at her.

The court heard he also ran at another woman on the street near the studio that same morning. ACT Magistrates Court heard about his actions.

The magistrate called this a degree of persistence over two days. The magistrate also said targeting females particularly is very serious, concerning behaviour.

The judge refused bail. He was concerned the man might endanger women's safety if released.
