VisionQuest looks stunning but drowns in plot complexity and dense dialogue
Marvel's new VisionQuest is visually striking but weighed down by tedious dialogue and tangled plotting.
Marvel's VisionQuest is a WandaVision spinoff starring Paul Bettany that tries new forms and styles. But it gets lost in complexity.
The show asks what it means for an AI to be human. Bettany's Vision works in an Edinburgh pub by day and becomes his robot self at night.
Visually it works. But the dialogue is too wordy.
The plot has many loose threads: an Ultron story, a bounty hunter subplot, a teenager claiming to be possessed. The Guardian found it clever but empty of feeling.
It's hard to care about robot beings in danger when they're just code. Each episode needs a big brawl that drowns out any deeper meaning.
