Five decades on, Sara Lee ice cream loses major retailers

Sara Lee's one-litre ice cream tubs have been removed from Coles and Woolworths after about two years.

Sara Lee's five-flavour ice cream range in one-litre tubs is no longer sold at Coles or Woolworths. Coles dropped the range last month after reviewing what customers buy and how they shop.

Woolworths had already stopped stocking Sara Lee ice cream about two years ago. Shoppers can still find the range at IGA and independent retailers.

Sara Lee's other frozen desserts, such as cheesecakes and pies, remain available at major supermarkets. The brand has been part of Australian homes for over five decades.

It was set up in Lisarow on the NSW Central Coast in 1971. Australians still have plenty of ice cream options, with Cadbury topping customer satisfaction ratings.
