Nor'easter floods US Northeast, knocks out power to tens of thousands
A slow-moving nor'easter is bringing severe flooding, dangerous winds, and major power cuts across the US Northeast for a second consecutive day.
A powerful nor'easter is pounding the US Northeast, swamping low-lying areas with water and knocking out power to more than 100,000 homes at times on Sunday. Tidal surges have inundated neighbourhoods in New Jersey and Queens.
Wind gusts up to 64 kilometres per hour have toppled trees and downed power lines on Long Island. The slow-moving storm has already killed one New York City housing authority worker.
It is expected to linger through Sunday with heavy rain and dangerous surf stretching to New England. More than 250 flights have been cancelled at Boston Logan airport.
Rainfall has exceeded 10 centimetres in parts of New Jersey since Friday, creating the worst flooding in nearly a decade for communities used to high water.
