Victoria Police to issue 2000 tourniquet kits
Victoria Police will give 2000 tourniquet kits to frontline officers, starting January 1.
Victoria Police will give frontline officers tourniquets following the attack on independent MP Helen Haines in Wangaratta. When bystanders rushed to help Haines outside her office, police arrived within eight seconds but had no medical equipment on hand.
Jacob Evans and his partner used their own medical kit. They helped save her life after she lost both legs.
Evans said: "We asked them for any medical equipment and they just shook their head and said no." From January 1, all frontline general duties and highway patrol officers across Victoria will carry the tourniquet kits.
