Lake Macquarie pushes to host athletes training for 2032 Olympics
A Lake Macquarie councillor has proposed that the city host teams preparing for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
Councillor Jason Pauling has proposed that Lake Macquarie host teams preparing for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. Several local sporting organisations have already approached him about getting involved.
The city has facilities that could work, including an athletics track, trampoline gym, clay target range, and sports grounds. Earlier Olympics saw elite teams arrive early to set up training bases.
These created economic and tourism opportunities for host regions. Research by KPMG estimated the Brisbane Olympics will boost Queensland's economy by $8.1 billion.
It will create about 91,600 jobs over 20 years. Pauling said councils across Australia are competing for a slice of that opportunity.
