David Fincher cut 60 pages from Quentin Tarantino's script for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel stars Brad Pitt.
The first draft was 230 pages long and read as two films. Fincher trimmed it to make a two-hour-20-minute movie.
That's slightly shorter than Once Upon a Time at two hours and 41 minutes. He told Empire magazine he focused on how characters collided in the back alleys of Hollywood in 1977.
He cared less about plot. Tarantino has described the film as having the flavour of an Elmore Leonard crime paperback.
The movie gets a two-week exclusive Imax run starting November 25, then moves to Netflix on December 23.
