Erin Blanchfield waits five years for UFC title shot
UFC fighter Blanchfield, promised a title shot for years, still waiting after five years.
Erin Blanchfield was 22 when she debuted in the UFC, and she's been told ever since she's a future champion. Five years later, she's still waiting.
This weekend she fights Jasmine Jasudavicius in Edmonton in a chance to strengthen her case, but even winning might not be enough. The women's flyweight division is crowded now, and another fighter, Wang Cong, got the title shot instead.
Blanchfield beat Tracy Cortez by finish; Wang beat the same fighter by decision and got the title opportunity. "That was the most frustrating part," Blanchfield said.
"I need an impressive finish" to stand out from other contenders, she added. Even an emphatic victory won't guarantee her the next title shot.
