Porter last played for the Eagles in 2022. Porter then spent three years at Leopold in the Geelong league, winning a 2024 premiership and claiming the club's best and fairest award in 2025.
Porter returns to Victoria's south-west this year with his partner and daughter. Playing-coach Nathan Vardy, who played alongside Porter in 2022, welcomed him back: "It's super exciting to get someone of Tate's calibre back.
