Federal public servants could get 9 per cent in pay rises by 2029

The first increase is 3.2 per cent from next March, and the union says it falls short.

Commonwealth public servants have been offered a 9 per cent pay rise over three years. The Australian Public Service Commission tabled the Federal Government's proposed pay package.

The offer includes a 3.2 per cent rise from next March. Further rises are 3 per cent in March 2028 and 2.8 per cent in March 2029.

Some workers in agencies with lower pay grades get extra rises of up to 0.5 per cent a year. The Community and Public Sector Union says the offer falls short of what it asked for.

The union's claim is 5 per cent a year, or the inflation rate (CPI), whichever is higher. Union members will vote on whether to accept the offer, and only members can join the poll.

These are preliminary positions, not agreed outcomes, and talks will continue.

AustraliaNothing is agreed yet, so the 3.2 per cent rise from next March is only a proposal for now.
