Canberra nurses threaten strike over 3% pay offer
ACT nurses threaten industrial action over the government's 3% pay offer.
The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation this week condemned the ACT government's response to its pay claim, with branch secretary Carlyn Fidow saying there is no better offer on the table. The government is offering 3% pay rises each year for three years, plus a $600 payment if inflation hits 3.5% in years two and three.
Nurses are seeking an independent review of the undervaluation of work historically performed by women, guaranteed staffing levels, and binding workforce plans. The union will hold a branch meeting next week to decide next steps.
Hospital services could be disrupted if action proceeds. Public school teachers have already begun rolling one-hour strikes, and jail staff at the Alexander Maconochie Centre walk off on 29 October.
