Band writes song for mystery woman 'Nana Bruce' they met in pub
A Wollongong band turned a stranger's account of her 55-year marriage into a song without ever learning her real name.
At the Royal Hotel in Bungendore, a woman shared a table with three band members and told them about her husband who had just died. The couple met at that same pub decades earlier.
When she tripped near the toilets, he caught her and they started talking. Fifty-five years together followed.
The band, Birdsville, decided to immortalise the story. They wrote the music first, then drummer Benedict Limbrey sang a chorus about the night.
They turned their conversation into the song This Is True Love on their new EP Thoughts Drown Out The Music. The band never learned the woman's real name, so they nicknamed her Nana Bruce.
She doesn't know she's the subject of a song.
Why it mattersThe song captures a universal story of how love begins and endures, turning a chance conversation into lasting art.
