Albury Wodonga hospital staff face four violent attacks a day
Albury Wodonga Health recorded 1,532 violent incidents against staff in 2025-26, a nearly 30 per cent jump from the previous year.
The Albury Wodonga Health hospital on the NSW-Victoria border has recorded its worst year for violence against staff. The 1,532 occupational violence incidents in 2025-26 mean about four attacks happen every single day.
Incidents include punching, kicking, spitting and verbal abuse. The number was 1,180 in 2024-25.
Before that, it was 944 in 2023-24 and 717 in 2022-23. The hospital launched a public campaign last September called No Excuse.
End The Abuse to shift community attitudes, but it did not slow the violence. The Coalition has promised to trial security officers at other hospitals if elected in the November 28 state election, but Albury Wodonga was omitted due to cross-border complications.
Staff are now supported by 40 duress alarms and around-the-clock security.
