Housing Trust plans 75 apartments on long-vacant Dapto school site
The Housing Trust plans 75 apartments on the long-vacant Dapto Public School site.
Fresh plans are moving forward for the long-vacant Dapto Public School site in Wollongong. The Housing Trust has owned the Byamee Street property since 2009 and proposes two four-storey apartment blocks and one seven-storey block totalling 75 dwellings.
Earlier plans from 2019 and 2024 were withdrawn. The new proposal benefits from State Significant Development classification, which allows it to exceed the council's three-storey maximum through Transport Oriented Development rules that favour housing near public transport.
Dapto station is close by. The plan includes 17 per cent affordable housing, with potential to increase if additional funding becomes available.
The Housing Trust CEO said the design draws on local history, flora and fauna, and aims to fit the neighbourhood's character.
