Eddie Howe emerges as top pick to replace Carrick at Manchester United

Manchester United director Jason Wilcox favours Eddie Howe to replace struggling manager Michael Carrick, and Howe would seriously consider the role.

Howe left Newcastle in July to rest. Howe would return for the United job if offered.

Wilcox backs him as cheaper and more experienced than rival Unai Emery. Villa would demand about £20 million to release Emery.

At Newcastle, Howe won the 2025 Carabao Cup after a 70-year wait. He also took Newcastle back to the Champions League twice.

Carrick has won just two of 11 games this season. That is the club's worst start since 1986.

He should stay for Sunday's game against Bournemouth. But his job is now in serious doubt.
