Lady Gaga joins FamilyMart's hunt for Japanese workers
FamilyMart brought Lady Gaga into a recruitment ad because roughly 30% of its more than 16,000 Japanese stores face staff shortages.
The pop star mops the floor, serves food and struts down the aisles as lookalike versions of herself restock the shelves in a black-and-white commercial that began airing across Japan last week. FamilyMart is advertising 10,481 part-time jobs across 16,455 stores.
Japan's shrinking working-age population has made hiring harder, especially in retail. The chain said the campaign aims to make working there more appealing and fun.
Gaga drew 266,000 fans to six sold-out Japanese shows earlier this year. FamilyMart is betting her star power can draw job applicants to its counters.
