Christiane Amanpour leaves CNN after 43 years as network changes hands
Christiane Amanpour is leaving CNN. The chief international anchor departs after 43 years as the network is purchased by David Ellison's Skydance.
She is one of the world's most well-known foreign correspondents. The 68-year-old Iranian-British journalist became famous covering major wars and humanitarian crises.
These included the Gulf War and the Bosnian conflict in the 1990s. Amanpour hosted CNN's nightly interview program and several other shows across CNN and PBS.
Her departure comes as Paramount completed a $158 billion purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6.
Paramount is owned by Skydance. In May, Amanpour said she was worried about the merger.
She based this on what had happened at other companies Ellison took over. She will end her daily shows by the end of this year.
She will continue her weekly CNN program through May. She plans to keep her podcast and pursue other projects.
Amanpour has spoken openly about her ovarian cancer diagnosis and return of the disease.

AustraliaNo direct Australian effect, though Australians follow CNN for global news and may note the transition at the network.
