Peugeot recalls 550 cars over faulty door handles
Peugeot recalled 550 of its 3008 SUVs in Australia. A software fault can lock the interior door handles. This traps people inside.
Peugeot issued an urgent recall on 550 models of its 3008 SUV made between 2024 and 2025. The problem: interior door handles can turn off by themselves while the engine runs.
People cannot open the doors from inside. Door handle problems create a serious safety risk.
The Department of Transport warning states: "If the interior door handles turn off, people may not be able to leave the car in an emergency. This increases the risk of serious injury or death."
Owners will be contacted to schedule a free software update at their local Peugeot dealership. The recall shows Peugeot's troubled time in Australia.
The French brand stopped sales in July and is leaving the market from 2027. Its Australian importer Inchcape is ending the partnership.
Peugeot's sales dropped from 4,000 cars a year in 2015. In the first five months of 2026, they sold just 373 cars.
