Kosciuszko National Park closes for feral animal cull
NSW is closing walking tracks and huts weekdays from November 9 to 27 to cull feral deer and pigs.
Kosciuszko National Park will close walking tracks, huts and other areas to the public each weekday from November 9 to 27. Hours are 5:45 am to 8:15 pm.
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will use this time to control feral deer and pigs, which damage waterways, habitat and threatened species. The operation targets roughly 2,000 deer in a winter cull.
An Invasive Species Council report says the government is not meeting its 2023 agreement targets to limit feral animals. Without ongoing control, the animals could spread west and reverse progress.
Bushwalking groups in the region say they have worked around past closures.
