Nic Maddinson recalled to Test squad after decade away
Cricketer Nic Maddinson was born in Nowra. He has been recalled to the Australian Test team for the first time since Boxing Day 2016.
The 34-year-old is heading to South Africa this weekend with the Australian squad. He made his Test debut against South Africa in 2016, nearly 10 years ago.
His last Test was in 2016. His last international appearance was a T20 against Zimbabwe in 2018.
Former opening batter Matthew Hayden criticized the selection on a podcast. He called it a promotion of mediocrity.
He questioned selectors George Bailey and Tony Dodemaide. Maddinson recovered from testicular cancer that was diagnosed in early 2025.
He finished chemotherapy and doctors cleared him in October. The selection was made partly because of injuries to Josh Inglis and Cameron Green.
