Mount Ousley Road requires trucks and buses in left lanes, whether carrying cargo or empty. A truck driver learned this in January when police caught him in lane three.
He faced court in August, but the judge dismissed the charge. The strict rules date to 1979, when fatal crashes earned the road the grim nickname 'death mountain'.
Safety upgrades followed. Today it remains the region's worst crash hotspot.
