Greens launch $21-a-week tax cut and welfare boost
David Shoebridge proposes raising the tax-free threshold to $26,000 and adding $1,092 yearly to all welfare payments.
Greens leader David Shoebridge wants to raise the tax-free threshold from $18,200 to $26,000. Workers would get a tax cut of up to $1,092 yearly, or about $21 weekly.
The policy would also add $1,092 to every welfare payment. This includes JobSeeker, student help, carer payments, and Age Pension.
The cost would be $22 billion a year. Shoebridge says it would come from taxing gas exports and mining harder.
But those taxes have not been fully calculated yet. This is part of Shoebridge's effort to set the Greens apart from Labor after he took over weeks ago.
