Trump strikes diesel deal with Putin, reversing sanctions pressure
Trump announced a deal to buy over 5 million tonnes of Russian diesel, reversing months of sanctions on Russia's energy.
President Trump said Friday he struck a deal with Putin to obtain Russian diesel. Russia will supply more than 300,000 tonnes immediately, 500,000 tonnes in November, and one million tonnes after that, plus three million more within a short period.
Trump signed a sanctions law last month targeting Russia's energy sector. The White House did not say who pays or when it arrives.
Diesel prices in the US have doubled since the Iran war began in February. Zelenskiy called the deal a gift to Putin that lets Russia wage longer war and inflict greater losses.
Putin confirmed the agreement in a Kremlin statement.
