From nurse to programmer: Christina Igasto leads ACT's digital reform
Dr Christina Igasto trained as a Swedish nurse. She learned 15 programming languages. Now she heads ACT's Digital Canberra agency.
At twenty-five, Dr Igasto worked as a nurse in Sweden. Dr Igasto later returned to school to learn coding.
Today she leads Digital Canberra. Dr Igasto is the ACT government's chief digital officer.
The agency works to improve how the territory runs digital projects. Her nursing background shapes her leadership.
She does not start with technology. Instead she asks: What is the outcome?
Who will use this? She joined the ACT earlier this year from NSW, where she led digital work at Service NSW.
She also held senior roles in that state's health department. She plans to bring the community in earlier for design work.
She wants the public to help shape digital tools before they launch. Her academic research examined artificial intelligence long before ChatGPT became popular.
