One Nation pushes into marginal Pakenham as voters seek change
One Nation held a rally in Pakenham, a marginal Melbourne seat, as the party maintains 23 per cent polling.
One Nation state leader Warren Pickering addressed supporters at Pakenham's Railway Hotel on Monday in the party's orange and blue colours. Pakenham, in Melbourne's outer southeast, is held by Labor's Emma Vulin, who will not recontest.
This makes it one of November's most marginal seats. Pickering told supporters that people from both major parties are switching to One Nation just because they want change.
Attendees cited the cost-of-living crisis and deteriorating roads as key concerns. A Resolve Political Monitor poll published this month showed One Nation at 23 per cent primary support statewide.
The Coalition was at 28 per cent, Labor at 25 per cent, and the Greens at 15 per cent. The Victorian state election is fewer than 40 days away.
One Nation also announced plans to crack down on illegal dumping and increase penalties for repeat offenders.
