DoorDash's first Australian delivery robot hits Gold Coast streets
Serve Robotics deployed its first footpath delivery robot outside the US on Thursday from a Southport restaurant.
DoorDash and American company Serve Robotics have launched a footpath delivery robot on the Gold Coast from Thursday. The robot will carry meals from local restaurant Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers Southport in a secure compartment.
Diners unlock it with a unique code. The machine resembles an Esky on wheels.
Human supervisors guide the robots through inner-city areas. Serve Robotics already runs deliveries for 4,500 US restaurants.
The Gold Coast's walkable landscape makes it an ideal test site for the company's first growth beyond America. DoorDash says human drivers will keep running its platform alongside the robots.
