They pair with wireless earpieces as small as a grain of rice. Sellers offered complete setups to rent for 3,000 to 5,000 yuan ($626 to $1,044).
Buyers could purchase them for 8,000 to 11,000 yuan ($1,672 to $2,298). Many sellers also provide real-time answer support.
Trained tutors listen to exam papers and send answers via earpiece. The devices can vibrate to signal answer choices.
The university said it has strengthened exam procedures. But it declined to say how many students face investigation.
