Cottesloe Beach shark barrier delayed by big swell until Monday
The shark barrier installation at Cottesloe Beach has been delayed to Monday due to forecast 3-metre waves.
A powerful swell forecast to peak at Cottesloe Beach on Thursday with wave heights up to 3 metres has forced a one-week delay to the shark barrier installation. The barrier was originally scheduled for this week.
Rough conditions would make it unsafe for contractors. Cottesloe's mayor said the community is eager to have the barrier in place.
This follows a recent shark fatality in Sorrento and increased shark activity at local beaches. The barrier costs the town $120,000 to install each year.
It is typically put up in early October. It will now go up on Monday.
Work is due to finish before summer swimming season begins.
