Open Hearth Hotel to lose upper two floors due to collapse risk
The top two levels of the Open Hearth Hotel building in Warrawong must be demolished urgently. This stops a possible collapse.
Two levels of the Open Hearth Hotel building at King and Cowper streets in Warrawong are at risk of partial collapse. The two levels must be demolished urgently.
The problem was found during an inspection to strengthen an awning over the public footpath. The awning is attached to the building's outer walls.
These walls are in poor condition. The outer walls cannot be removed safely unless the upper floors come down.
A small rear section of the Gala Twin Cinema building will also be demolished. This allows safe access for demolition equipment.
Ground floor shops will be kept and run where possible. The development application is on public display until November 16.
