100 jobs lost as Fantastic Furniture moves production offshore
Fantastic Furniture closes its last Sydney factory on Friday, moving all production to China and Vietnam.
Fantastic Furniture is shutting its Fairfield East factory this week after 35 years of local manufacturing. About 100 workers will lose their jobs.
The plant made a quarter of the company's lounge range and just 6 per cent of its overall products. The furniture chain has more than 80 stores across Australia.
It was bought by Allegro in May. It will now import all furniture from China and Vietnam.
The company says the move supports long-term growth. It will let the company invest in new product ranges for local customers.
It is offering retraining, redeployment and assistance to affected staff.
