Alan Kohler retires from ABC after 31 years, David Chau takes over

Veteran ABC finance journalist Alan Kohler is retiring after 31 years, and David Chau takes over.

Kohler ends his final segment on Wednesday night, finishing 31 years at the ABC. Kohler joined in December 1995 as a business and economics reporter on what was then called the 7.30 Report.

Later he became the lead finance presenter on the 7pm bulletins. Kohler was known for his signoff: 'And that's finance.'

Chau joined the ABC as a digital producer in 2017. He began presenting finance reports on the News Channel in 2019.

He said he was honoured to continue Kohler's legacy. The network also hired Jessica Irvine as a new money reporter.

She spent nearly two decades as an economics journalist at the Sydney Morning Herald and the Age. She will report on business and personal finance.

Irvine starts in November. Kohler is joining his son Chris on a new podcast titled Kohler and Kohler.
