Lilydale pizzeria serves from a 1937 railway carriage
A three-person team runs a pizza shop from a 90-year-old railway carriage in Lilydale, Tasmania, opening two or three nights each month.
A railway carriage built in 1937 became a working pizzeria in Lilydale, Tasmania. The carriage was saved from the local train station around 2010.
Three years of work transformed the carriage into a working pizza oven and kitchen. The original carriage carried produce and vegetables from Scottsdale to Launceston.
That fresh-food heritage lives on in the restaurant's long-fermentation pizza bases and locally sourced toppings. Three locals run Toot Toot Pizzeria.
Simon Lockett owns the property and cooks. Carmencita Palermo handles social media and makes the pizzas.
Kenny Yi preps ingredients and looks after customers. All three work full-time jobs elsewhere.
Pizza nights typically run two or three times each month. The pizzeria is at 1961 Main Road, Lilydale.
It opens next on November 7 and November 29.
