NSW commits $56 million to offset Riverina water buyback impacts
NSW and federal governments announced $56 million in funding for 34 Riverina projects to help communities adapt to Commonwealth water buybacks.
Regional NSW Minister Tara Moriarty outlined the funding package on Tuesday covering projects from Wentworth to Goulburn. The money includes $6.58 million for sports and community programs, with Lavington netball court receiving $52,555 for a new playing surface.
Goulburn's hockey centre gets $1.365 million for two modern fields to attract major championships. The remaining $50 million funds economic development, including an almost $5 million dairy upgrade at Blighty's Yurunga Farms, a $1.9 million feedlot expansion at Deniliquin, and $950,000 for mayonnaise production at a Barooga plant.
The projects are expected to create about 624 jobs.
