Charles Wooley becomes Hobart's first male mayor in decades
Charles Wooley became Hobart's first male mayor in more than seven decades.
The former 60 Minutes journalist won 14,384 votes to Harvey's 11,748 after preferences, campaigning on "Hobart for Hobartians". Wooley, who joined the flagship current-affairs program in 1991 and scaled back his role in 2020, will replace retiring mayor Anna Reynolds.
Charles Wooley's election marks a milestone: the last male mayor left office before 1952, when lawyer Mabel Miller became the first female mayor. About 50 per cent of the vote had been counted at the announcement.
He thanked supporters in a social media post, featuring his dog Dusty.
