Albanese's $6m golf club grant wasn't for sewerage, despite his initial claims
A $6 million federal grant was for clubhouse updates. PM Albanese first claimed it was for sewerage repairs.
Marrickville Golf Club in Sydney faced a political issue with a $6 million federal grant. The club had sewerage problems.
Septic system failures sent wastewater onto the course and toward the Cooks River. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the grant was to fix these problems.
But officials later said it was for clubhouse renovations at $4.55 million. It also included stormwater harvesting for $1 million and landscaping for $500,000.
The club got a separate $269,500 state grant from NSW for sewerage connection. Opposition senator James Paterson criticized Albanese for not correcting his false claim fast enough.
He said a minister would have lost their job for this in the past.
