Sophie Devine takes 4-19 as Scorchers stun Stars with tight bowling
Sophie Devine captured 4-19 as Perth Scorchers defeated Melbourne Stars by 15 runs in a low-scoring WBBL match at Junction Oval.
The Perth Scorchers managed just 9-124 batting first at Junction Oval on Monday night, but their bowling was so tight that Melbourne never got close. Veteran Sophie Devine, 37, was brilliant with the ball, taking 4-19 and claiming the key scalps of England captain Charlie Dean and Australia allrounder Annabel Sutherland.
Dean was stumped by new Scorchers captain Beth Mooney when the Stars looked in control at 4-79. legspinner Alana King added 3-17, taking two wickets in one maiden over.
Melbourne's captain Meg Lanning made 41, the best batting effort of the match, but could not lift her team over the line. The Stars were bundled out for 109 in 18.1 overs.
