Chermside dog attack investigation expands as body identified
Andy Parker, 48, found dead near Chermside was discovered just metres from where dogs mauled a jogger the same day.
A man found dead in bushland near Chermside has been identified as Andy Parker, 48, who was living rough near a Westfield shopping centre. Parker was discovered Sunday at midday, just metres from where real estate agent Ajay Malik was mauled by two dogs on Friday evening along a nearby bike path.
Post-mortem findings suggest Parker died on Friday, the same day as the attack on Malik, who suffered severe injuries to his face and both arms. Police are now taking jaw moulds and DNA samples from the two dogs, a bulldog-American Staffordshire terrier cross and a bulldog-boxer cross, to determine if they were involved in Parker's death.
The animals' owner, Layla Evans, 22, was living in a tent in the park. The dogs escaped despite being secured inside.
A homicide investigation unit has been deployed to the site.
Why it mattersIf the same dogs caused both deaths, it raises urgent questions about dangerous animal control and homelessness support in the city.
