Trial hears sexual abuse allegations spanning eight years; defence disputes
A woman says she was abused 150 to 200 times in eight years. The defence says she fabricated the allegations.
A trial is underway in Launceston for a 62-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a child; the victim's identity is protected. The woman testifying said she was abused repeatedly during incidents spanning 2003 to 2011.
The prosecution case focuses on three specific incidents from that eight-year period. During cross-examination, the defence lawyer suggested the woman fabricated the claims to draw people closer to her, to keep a then-boyfriend, or to stay in the garage.
The woman denied these suggestions and maintained the assaults did happen. Several witnesses including her mother, brothers and a childhood friend gave evidence.
The trial continues before Justice Robert Pearce.
