Garage Sale Trail ends after 16 years and 7 million rehomed items
Australia's Garage Sale Trail ends this month after rehoming 7 million second-hand items since 2010.
The Garage Sale Trail began in 2010 when co-founder Darryl Nichols and a friend invited Sydney neighbours to host second-hand sales. Around 12,000 households are taking part in the final event.
The final event runs over two weekends, with the last day on 15 November. The initiative has rehomed more than 7 million items and generated $52 million for sellers since launch.
Nichols said it was the right time to walk away. The EPA credited the Trail with diverting waste from landfill and reducing illegal dumping.
Participants said the social side matters too. People make about 30 new neighbourhood connections through a single sale.
