Fire evacuates 1200 guests from Paradise Resort Gold Coast
About 1200 holidaymakers were evacuated from the 360-room resort. A fire tore through the Planet Chill ice-skating rink on Monday evening.
A fire broke out at Paradise Resort Gold Coast at 7:40pm on Monday. This forced the evacuation of about 1200 guests during school holidays.
The blaze damaged the Planet Chill ice-skating rink at the rear of the resort. It collapsed part of the roof.
Fire investigator David Johnston said the fire was large but accidental. It was likely caused by an electrical fault.
Staff evacuated all guests safely. The general manager praised the team's calm response and emergency procedures.
The ice rink needs complete replacement. It may take months to reopen.
