Carlton beats Hawthorn in heavy rain at Ikon Park
Carlton defeated Hawthorn 36-24 in relentless rain at Ikon Park in AFLW.
The Blues led from start to finish, opening with three goals in the first quarter through Sophie McKay, Dayna Finn and Erone Fitzpatrick. Hawthorn fought back in the third term with Poppy Stockwell and Kaitlyn Ashmore scoring, but Carlton held firm.
The wet conditions made traditional footy impossible: just 14 marks were taken in the opening quarter between both sides, while 52 tackles were laid. Carlton's Abbie McKay dominated with 33 disposals and six clearances.
The victory moves Carlton back into the competition's top four.
