Visa policy fallout hits Newcastle University's Sydney campus
The University of Newcastle plans to end postgraduate programs at its Sydney campus. Fewer international students want these programs.
The University of Newcastle is proposing to stop taking new students in several postgraduate programs at its Sydney campus. Students already enrolled will finish their degrees.
No new students will be admitted. The affected programs include MBA, Professional Accounting, and Information Technology master's degrees.
Demand for these programs has dropped significantly. This drop is partly driven by weaker international student recruitment.
It is also driven by lower rates of students staying in their programs. About five to six staff roles may be cut.
Where possible, staff have been offered moves to the university's new location in Gosford Central. Students already enrolled will get support to finish their studies.
