Airbnb bans guests from stripping beds and washing dishes
From November 20, Airbnb hosts cannot ask guests to complete tasks requiring significant time or effort.
Airbnb has generally banned hosts from assigning guests chores like stripping bed sheets, taking out rubbish, or washing dishes. The ban takes effect November 20 on all global Airbnb bookings, including Australian ones.
Hosts can still ask guests to do light tasks such as putting used dishes in the sink. Airbnb had fielded years of complaints from guests about paying hundreds of dollars in cleaning fees while still facing long chore lists.
The new policy lets hosts set seven standard house rules at booking, such as check-in times and pet policies. Any additional requests must be reasonable given local circumstances, like limiting shower time during water shortages.
